Meet Our Music Teachers
My name is Brian Bersh and I have the privilege of serving as the instrumental music teacher for Jamestown and Taylor ES. I grew up outside of Philadelphia where I was able to have access to amazing arts and culture – just like you here in Arlington. I received my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership; a Master of Music Teaching, Specialization: General Music K-12; and a Bachelor of Music Education with a Minor in Jazz Studies. I started my teaching career at Yorktown HS in APS as the Director of Bands from 2011-2021, where I was able to lead the percussion, jazz, concert and marching band ensembles. I also oversaw the indoor and chamber music programs, and some years even steel bands and pit orchestras. Music has been a window into some pretty incredible opportunities for me throughout my life. I performed in the Bastad Chamber Music Festival in Sweden; the Tam Tam Percussion Festival in Israel; the Caribbean Culture Pan Festival in Germany; and in venues across Beijing and Shanghai, China. My favorite part of every group I’ve been a part of is the joy of making great music with friends – there’s nothing better, and I can’t wait to have that experience with you this year!
I’m Rai Faison and I grew up and attended public schools in Washington, DC. I graduated from the Duke Ellington High School for the Arts, received my Bachelor of Music Education Degree, with an emphasis on piano from Howard University, and received my Master of Education Degree from Trinity University. I began teaching in 1994 and have taught K-12 music in different schools in the DC metropolitan area. I began teaching in Arlington in 2003 at Kenmore Middle School, where I was the choral teacher for 15 years before becoming a Jamestown Jaguar. I love teaching music and am excited to be at Jamestown.
My name is Claire Ruggiero, also known as Mrs. R., and I am proud to be teaching at Jamestown Elementary! I was born and raised in Indiana and attended Ball State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal and General Music Education. I began my music education career in Indiana in 2014 and moved to Arlington County Public Schools in 2017 where I taught general music and chorus at Carlin Springs Elementary. I am thrilled to start a new chapter at Jamestown this year and I am so excited to connect with the students, staff and community! Let’s make some great musical memories!
